Yanaka is a quiet neighborhood near Ueno. These photos are from a nice stroll through the area in March.
A garden wall using what I think are old roof tiles as decoration
A beautiful wooden wall around temple grounds
Just taking a moment to appreciate the joinery
At the time, the cherry blossoms were just starting to bloom.
The reason I came to this neighborhood was to see this museum, the Asakura Museum of Sculpture. Not only were there many great works of art, but the house and studio were designed by the artist as well. Unfortunately I couldn’t take photos inside, but it was a really nice building.
This renovated 200-year-old public bath is now a contemporary art gallery called SCAI the Bathhouse
The artist currently on display, Tatsuo Miyajima, also has some work on the famous art island Naoshima
